Westminster’s Bryan Bonaparte inducted into Martin Luther King Jr Collegium of Scholars

University of Westminster Senior Lecturer in Psychology Bryan Bonaparte has been inducted into the Martin Luther King Jr Collegium of Scholars at Morehouse College, Atlanta. This honour recognises Bryan's work reflecting King’s values of service, justice and ethical leadership.

Bryan was honoured in the 41st Martin Luther King Hr College of Ministers and Laity Induction Ceremony at King’s alma mater, Morehouse College. The programme’s Collegium of Scholars celebrates academics who are committed to research, writing, teaching and mentoring in a wide variety of disciplines and contexts that promote and give support to the work of peace through moral cosmopolitan social responsibility.

Through his research, Bryan looks at masculinity and how its social construction and ideology often provide a toxic playbook of how men, particularly ethnically marginalised men, navigate their life journey. Bryan has spoken globally on these topics, including at Harvard University symposium in 2024.

Bryan’s work reflects Westminster’s institutional commitment to equality, diversity and inclusion and strategic mission to help students and colleagues from different backgrounds fulfil their potential and contribute to a more sustainable, equitable and healthier society.

About receiving the award Bryan said: "This is an amazing and very humbling honour. I have never gone about my work with any thought of reward, other than the feeling that I may be fulfilling my purpose in life. So to be honoured in this way really does leave me speechless, but it also motivates me to do more."

Bryan Bonaparte’s work directly contributes to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) 10: Reduced Inequalities and 16: Peace, Justice and Strong Institutions. Since 2019, the University of Westminster has used the SDGs holistically to frame strategic decisions to help students and colleagues fulfil their potential and contribute to a more sustainable, equitable and healthier society.
