The University of Westminster signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the H. Lavity Stoutt Community College in the British Virgin Islands (BVI), marking a further step in the University’s commitment to global engagement and long‑term international partnerships. The agreement will support discussions around progression opportunities, joint summer schools and student conferences, strengthening Westminster’s role as a globally connected institution creating opportunities that extend far beyond London.

Following on from a previous meeting in May 2025, Westminster welcomed representatives of the BVI for a tour of the University’s Little Titchfield Street site and a signing ceremony.
The University of Westminster was represented by the Vice-Chancellor and President Professor Peter Bonfield, Deputy Vice-Chancellor of Global Engagement and Employability Professor Dibyesh Anand and Deputy Vice-Chancellor of Education Professor Catherine O’Connor.
The BVI delegation was headed by the Honourable Sharie De Castro, Minister of Education, Youth Affairs and Sports, and Dr Richard Georges, the President of the College. They were joined by Orlandette Crabbe, Chief Education Officer of the Ministry of Education, Youth Affairs and Sports, and Tracy Bradshaw, the UK/EU Representative and Director of the BVI London Office.
As they toured the Little Titchfield Street site, the home of Westminster Law School, they learned about the musical heritage of Portland Hall from the 1960s onwards as well as the revival of the Soho Poly, the birthplace of fringe theatre and poetry recitals.
About the signing, Professor Anand said: “Hosting the delegation and discussions with the members enthused me because it was clear that we share a passion for values of diversity, inclusion and sustainable development. We are hopeful that our partnership becomes stronger and we become a home for students from the British Virgin Islands so that they can experience a global university with London energy.”
Dr Richard Georges added: “This Memorandum of Understanding marks an exciting milestone in our journey towards deeper international collaboration and expanded opportunities for our students and faculty. Our partnership with the University of Westminster is rooted in a shared passion for academic excellence, innovation and the transformative power of global connection. Together, we look forward to building meaningful programmes in business, technology and the humanities - programmes that will make a real difference in the lives of people across the Virgin Islands. We are truly energised by the road ahead and the lasting relationship we will grow together.”
The partnership directly contributes to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) 4: Quality Education, 8: Decent Work and Economic Growth and 17: Partnerships for the Goals. Since 2019, the University of Westminster has used the SDGs holistically to frame strategic decisions to help students and colleagues fulfil their potential and contribute to a more sustainable, equitable and healthier society.
