University of Westminster alumna Rebecca Fearnley delivered the talk entitled What It Takes to Manage Your Money to 90 Westminster students on Thursday 24 November 2022.

The talk equipped Westminster students with the best advice on how to manage their personal finances. It was part of Westminster’s alumni event series What It Takes

Rebecca, who graduated from Westminster with an MA in Journalism in 1996, is a consumer guidance expert, researcher and journalist, having spent two decades working for the consumer organisation Which?.

Managing personal finances, whilst always important, is even more so during this turbulent economic period with growing inflation. Rebecca ran through the basics of budgeting and emphasised the importance of understanding how much money one was spending against how much income they had coming in, as well as the importance of auditing finances to see where savings could be made.

She offered practical tips and advice for students on making the best choices in the early stages of their careers, such as things to be aware of when borrowing money and different types of savings accounts.

Students who attended the session had a positive experience. One student said: “It was a great session. I found it very useful and I’m glad I got so many questions answered.”
