The University of Westminster has launched the Westminster Alumni Community Leaders initiative to celebrate ten years of alumni engagement in India. To mark the milestone, the University hosted a series of events in Delhi, Mumbai and Bangalore, welcoming around 100 alumni and guests across the three cities.

The new programme introduces dedicated Alumni Community Leaders in the three cities designed to strengthen local alumni networks and serve as key points of contact between alumni and the University in each region. Community Leaders will support social event planning, communications and community engagement, organising events to help grow Westminster’s global alumni network in an inclusive and connected way.
The celebrations brought together alumni from a wide range of disciplines and graduating cohorts, offering opportunities to reconnect with former classmates, share experiences and hear the latest updates from the University. Each celebration featured networking sessions, music, photo opportunities and prize draws.
The events also provided an opportunity to strengthen Westminster’s long-standing links with India through meetings with partner organisations to explore new areas of collaboration and how best to progress existing partnerships.
Vasu Shobhit, Alumni Community Leader for North India and a Computer Science and Software Engineering BEng graduate, said: “Some places don’t just give you a degree, they give you direction. For me, the University of Westminster is one of those rare places that changed the way I saw the world. London was where things first opened up for me - my first real global exposure, my first job and my first sense of what was possible beyond borders.
“That’s why this new chapter feels special. I’m grateful to be stepping into the role of Alumni Community Leader with a focus on bringing Westminster alumni back into closer conversation and collaboration. The goal is simple: to create spaces for meaningful connections, shared learning and experiences that are as enjoyable as they are valuable.”

Dr Mazia Yassim, Associate Head of External Relations at Westminster Business School, added: “It was genuinely heartwarming to hear how well our alumni are doing and to see the impact they are making in their professional and personal lives. The visit also reinforced the importance of building strong, trusted relationships with our key partners in India, which are central to our shared ambitions and future collaboration.”
The new initiative and the University’s established links with India directly contribute to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 17: Partnerships for the Goals. Since 2019, the University of Westminster has used the SDGs holistically to frame strategic decisions to help students and colleagues fulfil their potential and contribute to a more sustainable, equitable and healthier society.
