The University of Westminster’s Business School organised a Presentation Mastery Workshop for students to help them unlock their potential as confident communicators. The session equipped them with real-world presentation techniques to enhance both their academic success and future career readiness.

Held on 8 October, the event was mainly organised by Dr Nashwa Nader Sadek, Lecturer in Digital Marketing Strategy, with the support of Dr Donna Mai, Assistant Head of the School of Management and Marketing, who led alongside Tony Treacy, the Director of the marketing consultancy Pitch Factory and the author of How to Become a Master of Persuasion.
During the workshop, students took part in a series of engaging activities designed to boost their public speaking skills. These included group exercises that focused on body language and vocal variety, where they learned key techniques such as the Rule of Three, which is based on research that people usually remember three main points at a time. So, students were encouraged to use vocal varieties and hand gestures to indicate that they are counting three points. They also learnt strategies to reduce filler words. Armed with their newly developed skills, students concluded the session by delivering a short final speech to showcase their progress and confidence abilities.
To celebrate their successes, the students received an e-certificate of attendance and participation from the Westminster Business School and Pitch Factory, which was signed by Dr Sadek, Dr Mai and Tony Treacy.
Dr Nader Sadek said: “Reflecting on the University's ethos to increase students' career readiness, I see presentation skills as a bridge between knowledge and opportunity as it turns a quiet potential into a confident voice that stands out in a competitive market.
“The Presentation Mastery Workshop proved to be a great success, engaging students through interactive activities that strengthened their confidence and refined their public speaking skills. The positive energy and active participation of the students made the session truly rewarding. This achievement would not have been possible without the excellent support and collaboration of Donna Mai and Dr Richard Berry, whose contributions played a key role in making the workshop impactful and memorable.”
In an anonymous student feedback survey, one student said: “The workshop provided highly effective practical strategies to deliver compelling presentations, build lasting confidence and strengthen the career readiness skills essential for career success.”
The workshop directly contributes to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal (SDGs) 4: Quality Education. Since 2019, the University of Westminster has used the SDGs holistically to frame strategic decisions to help students and colleagues fulfil their potential and contribute to a more sustainable, equitable and healthier society.
