The Honourees were revealed in a film which documents 2020 in fashion, bringing together a selection of next generation opinion leaders and creatives who share their personal perspectives of the impact of 2020 and the stand out moments of change. Priya was one of 20 individuals recognised in honour of her specific contribution to one of four categories: Community, Creativity, Environment and People.

Priya was selected as one of the Honourees in the People category of the Awards for her push for sustainable fashion in her work while telling the stories of those who make her clothes and the communities that she works with on her fashion brand.

Priya’s namesake menswear brand draws inspiration from her Indian-Nigerian heritage by repurposing vintage materials in factories that employ rural women and pay them fairly. She has shown at London Fashion Week Men’s since 2018 and is part of the British Fashion Council’s NEWGEN scheme. Her stockists include SSENSE, Browns and Matches.

The British Fashion Council described her as a progressive thinking leader and agent for change, and commended her use of her platform to raise awareness around the challenges of the Black community, especially throughout the Black Lives Matter movement.

Talking about her achievements, Professor Andrew Groves, Professor of Fashion Design, said: “While Priya was studying at Westminster I was struck by not only by her exceptional talent in menswear design, but also her ability to understand and deconstruct the fashion system to find a more sustainable and equitable ways of working. She has become an inspiration to our current students as someone that has led the way in showing how as a designer within the fashion industry and you can enable positive change. I’m incredibly excited that this award has recognised her for all her accomplishments so far”.
