The New York Times article recognised Priya Ahluwalia’s namesake fashion brand’s homage to different cultures, including her family’s Nigerian, Indian and Jamaican heritage as well as the broader immigrant experience in the United Kingdom. One example of her work highlighted in the piece included her exclusive capsule collection for Browns, which reflects inspirations from her heritage and was also inspired by the book Clarks in Jamaica.

The article also draws upon her trip to Lagos, Nigeria, which she took during her studies on the Menswear MA course, which inspired her to explore the global market for pre-owned clothes and sustainable fashion. This experience led her to launch her namesake brand ‘Ahluwalia’ six months after her first trip.

Talking to The New York Times about her work, Priya Ahluwalia said: “My life is a patchwork of cultures and heritage, a mishmash and remix of traditional ideas of being Indian or British or Nigerian.” This is reflected throughout her clothing line.

Commenting on her work, Professor Andrew Groves, said: “Priya’s approach to menswear is incredibly refreshing; her ability to draw on her personal history growing up in South London in the 1990s to create menswear that is utterly modern and desirable is a testimony to her talent.”
