The Rees Jeffreys Road Fund and the Brian Large Masters bursaries are designed to assist students who require financial aid to pursue their educational goals. Candidates will be selected based on demonstrable financial need, a strong understanding of career opportunities within the transport sector, clear career aspirations and an excellent academic record. Those who have demonstrated commitment to their field through professional experience can also apply.

Recipients of the Rees Jeffreys Road Fund bursaries will be awarded £10,000 each to kick start a career in the transport sector in the UK, as well as support those already mid-way through their career who wish to progress their professional knowledge and expertise. Applications should be submitted to the University of Westminster by 1 June.

The Brian Large Masters bursary will also offer students £10,000 each and aims to enrich the supply of transport planning professionals within the United Kingdom (UK). Candidates must be UK resident applicants to a full-time transport Master’s course and demonstrate commitment to a transport career in the UK.  Applications to the University of Westminster for consideration should be submitted by 15 June, with external decisions typically made during the summer.

These bursaries reflect the University’s institutional commitment to equality, diversity and inclusion and its long history of supporting social mobility.

About the bursaries Professor Enrica Papa, Professor of Transport Planning at the University of Westminster, said: "Securing a bursary for our Transport Planning MSc significantly eases financial burdens and enriches students' educational and professional journeys. I urge eligible candidates to apply."

Nancy Wellman, Development Officer at the University of Westminster, said: “These bursaries demonstrate the powerful role that philanthropy can play in widening access to postgraduate education. Support from the Rees Jeffreys Road Fund and the Brian Large Masters bursary ensures that talented students are not prevented from pursuing their studies because of financial barriers. By investing in students who are committed to building careers in transport planning, these bursaries support individual ambition and help strengthen a more sustainable, inclusive and highly skilled transport sector, creating lasting benefits for both individuals and society.”

These bursaries directly contribute to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) 9: Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure, 10: Reduced Inequalities and 17: Partnerships for Goals. Since 2019, the University of Westminster has used the SDGs holistically to frame strategic decisions to help students and colleagues fulfil their potential and contribute to a more sustainable, equitable and healthier society.
