Interior Architecture BA course induction

Welcome to your course

A very warm welcome to the Interior Architecture BA course at the School of Architecture and Cities.

We are excited to have you join our creative and dynamic learning environment. During welcome week, you will be introduced to the course structure, meet your tutors and fellow students, and discover the many resources and services available to support you throughout your studies. This is your first step into an ambitious and rewarding journey.

There has never been a more exciting time to study Interior Architecture at the University of Westminster. Our vibrant studio culture, hands-on approach, and access to advanced fabrication technologies are designed to foster experimentation, collaboration, and real-world impact.

The course includes practical experiences with real clients, such as the Spradling competition, where first- and second-year students created sustainable designs using innovative materials, sharpening their design skills while building valuable industry connections. Students also participate in Climate Action Week, collaborating across disciplines to explore design solutions to urgent global environmental and social challenges.

From practical making workshops and craft-focused sessions to live projects with real clients, you will be encouraged to think critically, make boldly, and engage deeply with the world around you. In their final year, students participate in a two-day Co-Production Workshop in partnership with Imperial College London’s Medical School, exploring how design intersects with mental health and wellbeing.

These transformative learning experiences will challenge you to reflect on your own practice and emphasise the importance of collaboration in designing meaningful, real-world solutions.

We cannot wait to see what you will bring to the course and what you will create with us.

Best,

Diony Kypraiou

Welcome to the School of Architecture + Cities

During your time in the School the focus is on your work and creative outputs – and we are committed helping you achieve your potential. As well as the full-time teaching staff, leading practitioners teach on our courses, and employers mentor students. The School brings together a variety of disciplines to address future environmental and social challenges – urban and environmental design to architecture, architectural technology, interior architecture, planning, and tourism and events. Our Marylebone campus is perfectly placed for exploring London, and houses some of the most advanced teaching and fabrication spaces in the city.

During your welcome week, there will be a programme of activities arranged for you, so please attend all the events on your individual timetable – as well as the formality of enrolment, you will get to work with your course tutors and fellow students.

Best wishes
Kate Cheyne

Equipment and materials

Digital technology

While you can borrow laptops through the University for 24 hours, it's better to have your own. If you're not sure what to buy, our technical support team can advise you once you've enrolled.

You'll be eligible for a student discount on computer purchases.

A smart phone with a good camera function is very useful for recording your work and for online communication.

Art materials

We ask all new students to come equipped for study, so we've put together a list of essential equipment and drawing supplies, working with an art supplier to come up with a special package deal [BA Interior Architecture ArtKit]. You can view and pre-order here: Artway purchasing the kit at the discounted rate by ordering before the deadline of 11.59pm Wednesday 10th September, to ensure your BAIA ArtKit is ready for collection at the University on Tuesday, 16th Sept.

You may already have some of the items listed so we are happy for you to source the complete list yourself, however, please be aware that there are a very few art supply shops in central London and these sell out of the basics near the start of the academic year. If you buy the kit online from our supplier, bring your purchase receipt to collect your BAIA ArtKit on Tuesday 19th September.
