Fine Art Mixed Media BA course induction

Welcome to your course

Congratulations on being accepted onto the Fine Art Mixed Media degree course. We look forward to working with you over the next three years and we will endeavour to ensure that your time with us is creative, exciting, and fulfilling.

During induction week we will go through the course programme with you in detail.  We have arranged a number of activities to help you settle in and prepare you for your time with us.  This will include spending time in the Fine Art studios and creative facilities, finding out who you will be working with, and seeing the campus and its community before you start the formal teaching.

We have also included a short list of books and other resources that will help you to get a good start in your studies pre-arrival, as well as a note on equipment and materials. There will be plenty more advice and direction later, once you start the course.

There will be current students guiding you through the week and beyond. As your Course Leader, I will be available to advise and support you.

It is essential that you attend all of your induction events, to give you the best possible start to your time with us.

Welcome to Westminster School of Arts

Equipment and materials

Generally, most big and expensive equipment you need such as cameras, lights etc can be borrowed from our media stores so you don’t need to buy new equipment for the course. It’s always good to see the direction your practice takes before investing in specific equipment, the university will have most of the equipment you will need.

It’s really useful to have a simple toolbox. Basic tools like a hammer and screwdriver alongside a tape measure, scissors, pliers, skill knife, gloves etc are a good starting point. As your practice develops you can add more specific tools as time goes by.

Digital technology

While you can borrow laptops through the University for 24 hours, it can be useful to have your own. If you're not sure what to buy, our technical support team can advise you once you've enrolled.

You'll be eligible for a student discount on some computer purchases.

A smart phone with a good camera function is very useful for recording your work and for online communication.
