Welcome to your course
Welcome to the Fashion Photography BA Honours course based at the Harrow Campus of the University of Westminster and congratulations on having been accepted onto the course.
During induction week we will go through the course programme with you in detail. We have arranged a number of activities to help you settle in and prepare for your time with us. This will include familiarising you with workspaces, who you will be working with, the campus and its community and our online resources before you start the formal, scheduled learning weeks.

We are committed to your development, and we have a team of permanent teaching staff, leading practitioners, technical support staff and industry partners who you will work with in a variety of ways through your journey at Westminster.
Based on our Harrow Campus, the School of Arts benefits from generous spaces for students to undertake their creative practice, join community events and a full suite of some of the most advanced technical and digital workshops.
During Welcome Week, we have planned a programme of activities for you, to help you navigate your way around the campuses, understand how to engage with your course team and space to get to know one another. Please do attend these events.

Equipment and materials
Our photographic equipment store holds a wide range of equipment for use both internally and externally including medium format (Hasselblad, Mamiya, Bronica), Sinar 5x4 view cameras, studio and portable flash lighting kits, a wide range of DSLR and Medium Format digital cameras and backs and a range of accessories and peripherals (light meters, tripods, polaroid backs etc). Pretty much everything you are likely to need day-to-day and even some specialist bits of kit like e.g. fisheye lenses, spot meters, and Fuji 6x9 cameras.
We do expect you to have your own Digital camera kit and you should get one before the start of teaching if you do not already own one. How much you spend on this and what model you buy is a matter of budget and personal preference.
If you don’t already have one, then you can borrow from the equipment store and discuss with your tutor or the technical staff which camera will best suit your budget and your needs.
For those analogue lovers amongst you – don’t worry you will still be using film and getting your hands wet (we have a large range of film cameras in all formats). In fact we’d like you to bring your own manual SLR camera in the first module - you can pick up a basic, fully manual SLR camera with lens from eBay. It must have full manual control and a built-in light meter. This is a great way to learn how to really control your camera – whatever you go on to use.
If you’d like advice, our photography staff and technicians will be more than happy to help you - you’ll meet them during orientation week and can discuss it with them then.
Digital camera kit
Including Body, Lens(es), Lens hoods, Lens tissues, Tripod.
We’d also strongly recommend you invest in your own hand flashgun if you don’t already have one. Ideally, this should be dedicated (e.g. fully compatible with your camera).
Insure your equipment.
