Congratulations on being accepted onto the Architecture BA course at the University of Westminster. We look forward to supporting you on your journey of learning, exploration and achievement. Your time with us will start with welcome week.
During this week, we'll set the context for the course, introduce you to our teaching team and your fellow students, and inform you about the services and facilities available on campus. On Tuesday afternoon you'll meet your ‘FANS’ (Friends of Arriving New Students), a third-year Architecture student who will guide you through your first couple of weeks at Westminster.
We ask all new students to come equipped for study, so we’ve put together a list of essential equipment and drawing supplies and worked with an art supplier called Artway. You should order the kit directly by going to the Artway website. Please order by 9 September to ensure timely delivery. You may already have some of these items so we are happy for you to source the complete list yourself, however, please be aware that there are very few art supply shops in central London, and these sell out of the basics near the start of the year. If you buy the kit online from our supplier, bring your purchase receipt to collect your kit on Tuesday 15 September.
Welcome to the School of Architecture + Cities
During your time at the School, the focus is on your work and creative outputs, and we are committed to helping you achieve your full potential. In addition to our full-time teaching staff, leading practitioners teach on our courses, while employers mentor students. The School brings together a variety of disciplines to address current and future environmental and social challenges, from urban and environmental design to architecture, architectural technology, interior architecture, planning, and transport. Our Marylebone campus is perfectly located for exploring London and houses some of the most advanced teaching and fabrication spaces in the city.

Collect Artway Kit
Please note you must bring your purchase receipt to collect your kit. You will need to take the kit home with you at the end of the day – you cannot leave it anywhere on campus. There are small lockers available for student use – if you would like one, bring a small key or combination padlock.

Outdoor Film Screening (Optional)
6.30–9.30pm
All new students are invited to an outdoor cinema event at Harrow Campus. The college will be providing one free drink and a choice of snack for the first 500 attendees, as well as a paid bar during the screening.
Architecture & Cities Boat trip tour
10.30am, meeting location: Crown Pier, *Drop off at Greenwich Pier (opportunity to visit National Maritime Museum, Cutty Sark, The Observatory).
A link will be shared on Tuesday 15 September for you to sign up for your free ticket.
Bring your own lunch for the boat trip. Soft drinks, teas, coffees and snacks can be bought on board.

Equipment and materials
Digital technology
While you can borrow laptops through the University for 24 hours, it's better to have your own. If you're not sure what to buy, our technical support team can advise you once you've enrolled.
You'll be eligible for a student discount on computer purchases.
A smart phone with a good camera function is very useful for recording your work and for online communication.
Art materials
