We welcome enquiries from employers who would be interested in offering a placement to any student from the College of Design, Creative and Digital Industries. Outside of courses, placements can be offered year-round, although students will generally only be able to undertake part-time work placements during term time. Internships/placements offered outside of a course should be paid at the National Minimum Wage or above.

Fashion placements

  • One-year full-time, paid industrial placements within Fashion Business Management usually starting in June/July
  • Extended Fashion Design Internship between 26–52 weeks usually starting June/July
  • Six-week fashion design internship starting in January (second-year students)

Media & Arts Sandwich Placements

  • One-year (48–52 weeks) sandwich placement for undergraduate students in their penultimate year of study in our digital media, visual media (including illustration, graphic design & animation), photography, contemporary media practice and music
  • For our film course there is a minimum requirement of 24 weeks up to 52 weeks
  • Placements should be paid at the National Minimum Wage or above on a full-time basis, starting between July – September each year
  • Work placement settings include SMEs, start-ups, larger corporations and charities

Media & Arts short-term placements – professional practice/work-based learning

  • The majority of our courses have either a professional practice or work-based learning module where they can do a short-term placement. The timings will vary by course but range between 5–15 days. Please do contact us to find out exact requirements for each specific course
  • Courses include contemporary media practice, photography, fine art mixed media, TV production, film, digital media, music and multimedia journalism
  • Travel and/or lunch expenses should be covered, and any hours/days in excess of the placement requirements must be paid National Minimum Wage

Placements in the School of Architecture

  • Two-week work experience for third-year undergraduate architecture on set dates in September and for  architecture technology and architecture and environmental design students on set dates in January. This is generally unpaid and must be full-time within a RIBA chartered practice
  • 50 hours work experience for first-year Tourism & Planning, Tourism in Business and Tourism & Events Management undergraduate students between October and April/May. This can be paid or unpaid (with travel and lunch expenses) and can be part-time in term time and full-time during vacation periods
  • One-year sandwich placement for undergraduate students in their penultimate year of study in Tourism & Planning, Tourism in Business and Tourism & Events Management. It should be paid at National Minimum Wage or above, on a full-time basis, starting between July – September each year. Sandwich placement settings can include SMEs, start-ups, larger corporations and charities

Placements in the School of Computer Science & Engineering

  • One-year (35 – 52 weeks) sandwich placement for undergraduate students in their penultimate year of study in business information systems, computer science, computer games development, software engineering, network security and data science and analytics
  • Placements should be paid at the National Minimum Wage or above, on a full-time basis, starting between July - September each year
  • Work placement settings include SMEs, start-ups, larger corporations and charities
