Pro Vice-Chancellor and Dean, Westminster School of Media, Arts and Design

My role and vision

As Dean of Westminster School of Media, Arts and Design and Professor for Contemporary Art and Theory, I can build on the Faculty’s achievements and existing international reputation for outstanding academic programmes and world-leading research with societal impact in our research centres CREAM and CAMRI.

My role is to provide academic leadership for learning, teaching, research and academic enterprise. My role is to ensure that we offer the best possible experience to develop the next generation of engaged citizens and creative professionals who will shape communities, the creative and digital economy and wider society.

We will continue to develop vibrant partnerships with industry and businesses in London, the UK and internationally to prepare our students, who come from a great diversity of backgrounds, for professional life in fields such as media and journalism, fashion, photography and film, art and design and music. An integral part of the learning experience in Westminster School of Media, Arts and Design are the many opportunities to encounter and exchange with students, staff and alumni abroad through our growing network of international partners.

I believe that an excellent student experience can only be delivered through committed expert staff, and an inspiring learning environment. We are proud to have both.

I have held a number of academic positions in universities in Germany and the UK, including as a lecturer in art theory at Humboldt University in Berlin, lecturer and senior lecturer in fine art at the University of Dundee, as research leader and Director of the Research Institute in Art and Design at the University of Ulster and Director for Research and Enterprise at the University for the Creative Arts, UK.

I have an Art Theory and Aesthetics PhD from Humboldt University, Berlin, where I also completed an MA in Art and German Language and Literature. I also gained a postgraduate qualification in European Cultural Policies and Administration from the University of Warwick.

My own research is concerned with contemporary art and cultural practices, including digital literacies, cross-disciplinary and cross-culural connectivities, and public pedagogies.
