About me

Jan is is a Fellow of the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors and a Senior Fellow of the Higher Education Academy. She spent 20 years working, mainly in property asset management, for a variety of institutions, including Fenn Wright, Transport for London, The Crown Estate, Hammerson plc, and Merrill Lynch Investment Managers before moving into lecturing in higher education. She has maintained an evolving portfolio of part-time jobs and is currently a Senior Lecturer in Real Estate at Westminster Business School, Senior Lecturer in Management at Suffolk Business School, a consultant for Kingston Business School, an examiner for the Institute of Residential Property Management, and an external examiner for UCL's Summer School.

Teaching

Jan combines teaching in real estate and business management. In real estate she currently teaches Valuation, Property Asset Management and Housing Law, Sales and Practice at both undergraduate and post-graduate levels. Her business management teaching is at undergraduate level and currently include Delivering Successful Projects, Analysing Organisational Behaviour and Exploring Strategic Management.

Research

Jan has a PhD in Management from Essex University and is co-author of Property Asset Management, 4th Edition, Routledge, 2018 and Real Estate: The Basics Routledge, 2022.

Her research interests concern portfolio working patterns and experiences, and valuation methods and teaching approaches.
