About me

I became a lecturer in criminology at the School of Social Sciences in 2023. Prior to coming to the University of Westminster, I spent some years at the University of Manchester, both as a postdoctoral fellow at the Global Development Institute and then as a Teaching Associate at the Department of Criminology. I also have experience as a practitioner in the criminal justice system.

Teaching

I have a wide range of teaching experience, which was initially built-up working in language schools and universities in Turkey.  When I returned to the UK, I taught at the University of Leicester while I was completing my PhD and then at the University of Manchester. At the University of Westminster, I have much enjoyed adapting my previous teaching and research experience to the university's courses.

Research

My research interests initially centred on the development of sociological theories of human rights violation in Turkey. More recently, I have started to examine criminological theory and its portrayal of the Armenian Genocide. I am also developing my research on the decolonisation of criminology.
