About me

I am a Chartered Organisational Psychologist, a Coaching Psychologist, an Associated Fellow of the British Psychological Society and a Registered Organisational Psychologist with the Health Professions Council. I specialise in senior management coaching, selection, development, personality differences and psychometric testing. As a Senior Lecturer in Psychology at Westminster Business School I teach on the MA and MBA modules, and my teaching profile includes Business Psychology at UCL, the Open University, Birkbeck College and MSc Psychology at Goldsmith's College.

I am a full member of the Division of Occupational Psychologists, a Member of the BPS Special Group of Coaching Psychologists, a Member of the Division of Social Psychology, a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy, and a Principal Member of the Association of Business Psychologists. I am a BPS accredited Level A and Level B psychometric test administrator. I have a PGCHE (Birkbeck) Cert. Equal Ops and am a trained ACAS mediator (Certificate in Internal Mediation 2006). I was elected to the BPS Committee of the Special Group of Coaching Psychologists in December 2007, am a Founder Member of the Society for Coaching Psychology and a Member of the Society for Coaching Psychology.

As Managing Director of WorkLife Management Ltd. (est.1998) a business psychology consultancy, my work with clients includes airlines, (British Airways, British Mediterranean Airways) fire brigades, (London and Wales) NHS, the MOD, The Press Association, internet start-ups, train companies, NATO Leadership Programme, and private individuals. At British Airways I developed and managed the cabin crew crisis counselling unit, CrewCare, including recruiting, training and supervising a team of person-centred counsellors who supported 16,000 cabin crew, and facilitated Return to Work workshops for returning mums following maternity leave.  Justice, fairness, and respect are important facets of my work and my commitment to civil liberties, and equality, include working with a House of Lords cross party group to protect women and girls from violence, and to uphold women’s rights.   I am a published author and a reviewer for Sage, Palgrave Macmillan and Pearson Educational.

Teaching

For psychology teaching to be of any use, it must have a practical application, and I bring my extensive work experience to my teaching process to demonstrate the link between theory and practical application of psychology at work. My teaching includes: Psychometrics: Assessment for Individual Differences; The Social Psychology of Organizations; Counselling at Work; Learning and Development; Training for Work;  and Work Psychology. Support for students' learning is through project supervision, personal tutoring, academic tutoring, and one-to-one mentoring. I have promoted the practical application of occupational psychology through national and international conferences, psychology seminars and publications.

As a Distinguished Speaker at Goldsmiths, University of London, I presented a talk (2012) on using psychometric tests for development at the Defence Academy, UK. I have spoken on my research, including the Dark Side of Leadership at the Defence Academy, Shrivenham, for the NATO leadership programme. I was invited to speak about my current research at The Hurlingham Club, London on Personality and Coaching for the Hogan Summit (London 2014). I am a published author with many academic journals, and chapters. My recent book Ashleigh, J. & Mansi, A. (2012) The Psychology of People in Organizations, Pearson, was shortlisted for the Chartered Management Book of the Year 2013.
