About me

I joined the University of Westminster as a senior lecturer in construction management from the University College of Estate Management (UCEM). I started my academic career as an Assistant Lecturer in Construction Management at the Ahmadu Bello University in Nigeria in 2005. I left on a funded scholarship to the University of Reading where I bagged a PhD in construction management and engineering in 2016. For my doctoral research, I  studied the practice of sustainability from the perspective of contracting firms in emerging economies.

In my previous role at UCEM between 2016 and 2020, I led the online MSc and BSc Construction Management Programmes and I also as acted in the capacity of an Academic Delivery Manager for a range of level 7 modules. At Westminster, I am the course leader for a few modules at Ievels 4, 5, 6 and 7. I also supervise a few master’s level research projects.

Teaching

I am quite passionate about learning and teaching. I have significant experience in online and face-to-face teaching and as a Fellow of the HEA, I am also keen to apply best practice pedagogies and technology mediated environments in the design of modules and learning activities in order to enhance student’s experience, learning and outcomes. At Westminster, I am involved in teaching a range of  built environment subject areas which cover construction technology (including innovative and modern methods), project management and commercial management across the different levels of study (level 4 to level 7).

I also have significant experience in module and programme development and enhancement. This involves engaging with PSRBs and industry practitioners to develop modules and programmes that are relevant for contemporary professionals in the built environment.

Research

My research interests include sustainability in the built environment, construction in emerging economies and innovation in the built environment. I have been involved in a few research projects. For my doctoral research, I explored the theme of sustainability in the Nigerian construction industry. In 2018, I participated in the British Council, Newton Fund Researcher Links Workshop in Blumenau, Santa Catarina Brazil where participants examined the perennial flooding in the Itajai region and explored concepts of resilience in providing solutions to the problem.

I intend to develop my research in these areas in the future along with potential collaborations with other researchers on digital innovations in the Built environment.
