The UWSU election is an annual democratic process that enables students to elect their future student leaders to represent them in a range of matters, from academic, social and wellbeing needs at Westminster. Officers exist for the students to ensure the Westminster experience far exceeds their expectations, and that they are looked after during their time at University.

After a week of campaigning and debate, the results were announced. The elected full-time sabbatical officers are Adil Musani for UWSU President, whose primary responsibility will include enhancing the overall student experience by expanding communal spaces and advocating for better housing support, Vivian Barton for Vice President of Activities, who will oversee the development of student facilities and promote engagement in extracurricular life through societies and sports, Imsal Farrukh Adnan for Vice President of Welfare, who will take care of improving health, wellbeing, and accessibility support for all students, Muhammad Barik Ullah for Vice President of Undergraduate Education, who will work to strengthen academic guidance and push for greater financial support for students, and Shifa Shaikh for Vice President of Postgraduate Education, who will look after postgraduate student support through employability initiatives and efforts to encourage an inclusive and welcoming campus environment.

About the elections, Adil Musani said: “Running for the UWSU again has been an incredible experience. It gave me the chance to connect with new students, gain deeper insight into how the Union supports us all and truly appreciate the dedication behind the scenes. Personally, the election period was more than just a campaign—it was a platform to grow, lead and engage with our amazing student community. Every candidate brought their best with great energy and sportsmanship, which made it even more inspiring.

“As your UWSU President, I am committed to being your voice, your advocate and your support. I will work tirelessly to ensure that your concerns are heard and that your academic journey is not only successful but also memorable and full of opportunities to thrive.”

The UWSU elections directly contribute to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) 4: Quality Education and 16: Peace, Justice and Strong Institutions. Since 2019, the University of Westminster has used the SDGs holistically to frame strategic decisions to help students and colleagues fulfil their potential and contribute to a more sustainable, equitable and healthier society.
