The University of Westminster hosted the Institute of Directors India during their Annual London Global Convention on Corporate Governance and Sustainability in November 2022.

During a special session on the final day of the convention, several colleagues from the University of Westminster as well as members from the Institute of Directors India shared their thoughts and expertise on the role of boards in promoting economic growth and resilience. The event was attended by around 50 members of the Institute of Directors India and the Westminster community.

Professor Brendon Noble, Director of the Institute of Urban Healthy Living and Head of the School of Life Sciences at Westminster, opened the event with insights on the changing emphasis of the boardroom and the importance of ensuring boards have appropriate technologies to navigate the disruption caused by emerging technologies.

Highlights of the event included a keynote address from Ashok Kapur, Director General at the Institute of Directors India; a keynote talk from Professor Sa’ad Sam Medhat, Chief Executive at the Institute of Innovation and Knowledge Exchange, on the topic Can Innovation Reshape the Principles of Economics; and a panel discussion chaired by Professor Ludo Van der Heyden, INSEAD Chaired Professor of Corporate Governance.

Speaking about the event, Professor Noble said: “We are delighted to have co-created this event with our friends at the Institute of Directors India. We spoke of important global issues with thought leaders and all in an atmosphere of friendship and cooperation. I look forward to meeting with our friends in India during 2023 and continuing discussions.”

Manoj K Raut, CEO and Secretary General of the Institute of Directors India, added: “It was a great pleasure for the Institute of Directors India to collaborate with the prestigious University of Westminster to co-host a Special Session on the theme Great Boards for Economic Growth and Resilience. The session generated a lot of excitement and interest from prominent leaders and notable dignitaries from around the world.

“The success of the event comes from a long-standing affiliation of the Institute of Directors India with Westminster through an engaged Memorandum of Understanding. We are very pleased to be associated with them as they strive to nurture the next generation of leaders and make them future-ready. We are looking forward to building an even stronger relationship and association with Westminster, and work in unison to further advance our excellence agenda in corporate leadership and governance globally.”
