Amin Yousefi, a postgraduate student from the Documentary Photography and Photojournalism MA course, has been chosen as one of six contributors of the next edition of the semi-annual visual arts publication Hapax Magazine.

An example of Amin Yousefi's photgraphy.

This follows Yousefi’s selection as a Paris Photo Carte Blanche 2022 award finalist for his photography series ‘Eyes dazzle as they search for the Truth’, which is a reinterpretation of the photos of the Islamic Revolution of Iran.

Five artists, including Yousefi, and one curator will create new photographic projects or curated sections for publication in the third issue of this semi-annual magazine. The contributors will also take over the Hapax social media, while the new commissions that they are working on will be unveiled in the pages of the magazine.

Amin Yousefi is an Iranian artist studying a postgraduate course in Documentary Photography at the University of Westminster. As the University is re-writing the courses for 2024, the Documentary Photography and Photojournalism MA course will cease to exist after December 2022, and therefore Yousefi will be one of the last students to study on this course.

Yousefi joins artists Immaculata Abba, Paulina Korobkiewicz, Alexander Mourant, Helen Sear and curator Rica Cerbarano in being commissioned for this project. As a native of Iran’s most oil-rich region and the scene of the country’s war with Iraq, Yousefi works with ideas related to history, social-political issues, and the effects of war, and how the act of photography can conceptually mirror the structures of these relationships. His works have featured in numerous national and international group exhibitions and awards and a recent solo exhibition ‘Life, Death and other Similar Things’ at Ag Galerie, Tehran.

Work is underway on the creation of the third issue of Hapax Magazine, to be published Winter 2022/2023. A call-out for the fourth issue will be announced when publication dates for the third issue are confirmed.
