The two shows, ‘TEMPORAL SHIFT’ and ‘ADRIFT’, exhibit work from postgraduate photography students at the University of Westminster, using photography as a medium for exploration and storytelling.

TEMPORAL SHIFT is the culmination of experimental and thought-provoking work from students studying on the Photography Arts MA course and offers a kaleidoscope of explorations within photographic practice. Pushing the boundaries of the medium with an ambitious display of photographic prints, sculpture, video and performance, the works provide an exciting return to the physical space of the gallery.

Throughout the show, students from a wide range of cultural backgrounds delicately navigate universal themes such as loss, memory, connection and place, while also raising compelling questions about truth and identity. Reflecting the rich and diverse landscape of contemporary photography, TEMPORAL SHIFT brings together a dynamic collection of visual practices.

Talking about the exhibition, Lucy Soutter, Course Leader for the Photography Arts MA course said: “We are particularly proud of the eclectic, ambitious work our students have produced this year. After a period of being so intensely screen-based, we are delighted to see our students make such good use of the P3 gallery, bringing their intelligent and carefully wrought work into physical encounter with the viewer.”

ADRIFT presents the work of eight contemporary documentary photographers and their explorations using photography as a medium for storytelling. Each display, devoted to a single artist, offers various ways of telling, recording, and evaluating the environments in which we live and breathe. Featuring the work of students and artists from around the globe and covering a multitude of themes, ADRIFT is an opportunity to view a robust collection of contemporary practice.

David Moore, Course Leader for the Documentary Photography and Photojournalism MA course, said: “The 2021 graduates of the Documentary Photography and Photojournalism MA address impermanence and social and economic change, how that is experienced at a personal level and how individuals are affected by greater scenarios that, perhaps, increasingly feel out of their control.”

The show will open to the public on 26 November 2021 at Ambika P3 Gallery at Westminster’s Marylebone Campus.
