Hanukkah menorah with all candles lit

Hanukkah, the eight-day-long Jewish festival also known as the Festival of Lights, sees Jewish people across the globe light an extra candle each night, on an eight-branched menorah.

The holiday commemorates the rededication of the Second Temple in Jerusalem at the time of the Maccabean Revolt against the Seleucid Empire. The holiday begins on the 25th day of Kislev, the ninth month of the lunar year on the Hebrew calendar. This year, the holiday began on Sunday 18 December on the Western calendar and continues until Monday 26 December.

The University of Westminster wishes a very happy Hanukkah to all of its students, colleagues, alumni and friends who are celebrating the holiday.
