Ayub Abdulkadir, Architecture BA Honours student from the University of Westminster, has won the targetjobs Undergraduate of the Year Award in the Social Mobility in Real Estate and the Built Environment category, earning a four-week paid summer internship with Coldwell Banker Richard Ellis (CBRE). The award recognises students who are passionate about pursuing a career in Commercial Real Estate Surveying with strong skills and a commitment to respect, integrity, service and excellence.

Established in 2021, the Undergraduate of the Year Awards celebrate the UK’s best undergraduate students. Each award category is partnered with a prominent employer who provides an exclusive prize for the winner, which could include a paid internship, a trip abroad or other professional opportunities.
The grand final was held on 24 April in Canary Wharf, where Ayub was announced the winner of the category, giving him the opportunity to take on a four-week paid summer internship with CBRE starting on 15 June. Ayub will work alongside current graduates and senior professionals on a range of projects, giving him first-hand insights into what a graduate career in Real Estate at CBRE is all about. He will gain real-world experience and have opportunities to build a network of professional contacts.
Other nominees for the award include Real Estate BSc Honours students Ameera Rizwan and Marigona Zymeri. Along with this, International Relations BA Honours student Dania El-Amin made it to the final of the Multilingual Undergraduate of the Year category, while Jayda Jackson-Warren, Biomedical Sciences BSc Honours student, was nominated in the Celebrating Neurodiverse Talent category.

Ayub’s work directly contributes to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) 8: Decent Work and Economic Growth and 17: Partnerships for the Goals. Since 2019, the University of Westminster has used the SDGs holistically to frame strategic decisions to help students and colleagues fulfil their potential and contribute to a more sustainable, equitable and healthier society.
