PhD Mphil Study

As the UK Pioneer in Commercial Music Education provision at UG level, and with several staff qualified to supervise PhD student research, the University of Westminster's Department of Film, Fashion and Music is uniquely placed to support PG-level research in all aspects of music business, music sociology, or music analysis for industry-specific situations, such as film, TV, advertising, forensic musicology. This is partly due to the inherently collaborative nature of the Department, but also to the wide range of industrial and academic knowledge of the research interests of staff members.

Our full-time academic staff would be eager to consider your proposal for MPhil/PhD research in any of the following areas:

  • music and identity
  • music scenes and subcultures
  • music and gender
  • music analysis
  • music for use
  • forensic musicology
  • music education
  • music business.

Other proposals may be considered. If you would like to discuss a possible MPhil/PhD proposal, please contact either Dr Christian Kennett ([email protected]) or Dr Helen Reddington ([email protected]), in the first instance, for an informal discussion of your project.
