Join us for an artist's talk with Alfredo Jaar, followed by a discussion with artists Abbas Zahedi, Yarli Allison and curator Annie Jael Kwan.

Please join us for a rare evening with internationally-acclaimed artist Alfredo Jaar, whose keynote talk "Things Fall Apart" opens a compelling public gathering on the power – and the limits – of art in times of crisis.

For over four decades, Jaar has interrogated how images shape our understanding of conflict, injustice, and power. Working across installation, photography, and public interventions, his practice confronts indifference and insists on the ethical responsibilities of representation. His talk offers a profound insight into a lifetime of making art that challenges, unsettles, and demands empathy.

Following the talk, Jaar will be joined by artists Abbas Zahedi and Yarli Allison for a panel discussion titled Curing the World? Art as Change and Healing, moderated by Annie Jael Kwan, curator of Brent Biennial 2025.

Zahedi’s socially-engaged practice blends sound, sculpture, and ritual. With a background in medicine and philosophy, his work explores how art can function as both a threshold and a salve. Allison works across sculpture, XR, film, tattooing and performance. Her speculative worlds examine queerness, biotech, migration and digital entanglement, weaving tenderness through precarity.

This event is hosted by CREAM (Centre for Research and Education in Art and Media), as part of FIRE Ritual, the third chapter of Brent Biennial 2025
