About me

I am a Senior Lecturer in the School  of Organisations, Economy and Society within Westminster Business School with a background in commercial HR consultancy. My non teaching roles include currently Course Leader for BA BM in HRM, past Chair of Westminster Business Consultants and past Knowledge Exchange Lead (academic enterprise) for SOES . I deliver Post Graduate modules in Skills of the Consultant and Reward Management as well as supervise post graduate student dissertations. I am a tutor on the Business Experience Placements module and teach on modules such as Leadership, Coaching, Resourcing and Strategic Management. Prior to the university career, I was a founder member of the Total Reward Group in 2005 providing Reward services to commercial and not for profit organisations which was integrated into the Gallagher Insurance and Consulting Group which I left in May 2021. I am very committed to bridging the gap between employers and academia by putting student research into practice. Before  TRG, I was a Senior Manager at PwC assigned to the internal Global Mobility staff programme. I also designed a CIPD training courses in Global Mobility for Advanced Award in Reward Management programme from 2010 until 2018 having achieved Fellowship of the CIPD in 2005. My undergraduate studies were in English literature at the University of Wales from 1983 to 1986 followed by a Diploma in Personnel Management with the University of Westminster in 1992 and QTS with Kent and Medway Training in 2007. Recent qualifications include a PGCHE at Westminster followed by a Masters in Higher Education with Distinction at Middlesex University with a research dissertation on Authentic Learning and Assessment. 

Teaching

I have been teaching post graduate Reward Management and leading the level 5 Reward module at the Westminster Business school since September 2016. The Reward Management module teaches students how to design reward systems in private and public sectors as well as explore external reward issues such as Minimum Wage legislation, Executive Pay and the Gender Pay Gap.  I also supervise dissertations on Corporate Governance and the Gender Pay Gap. I also have taught  International Resourcing approaches, Performance Management , Intercultural awareness and Global Mobility Reward on MBA and Level 7 International HRM courses. The teaching style is interactive, topical, case study driven and applicable to the modern global working environment.  Before this I was a Visiting Lecturer with Westminster Business School since September 2014. I am also on the teaching team for the level 6 Global Strategic Management module as well as supervise undergraduate students on Business Experience Placements.  

Research

My areas of Research interest are expatriate compensation and benefits, executive pay, Gender Pay Gap, employee benefits and international reward structures. I have published a number of articles on employee benefits in Employee Benefits, Reward  & Employee Benefits Association and International HR Adviser magazines. I am also a regular speaker and CIPD and International HR Adviser conferences and past Chair of Central London CIPD branch.
