Dr Ozlem Koksal

Ozlem Koksal is a senior lecturer at the School of Media and Communications and a researcher at the Center for Research and Education in Arts and Media (CREAM). She is also the PhD coordinator for CREAM PhD program at the School of Arts, University of Westminster. Her research focuses on the intersection between issues concerning race, ethnicity, minorities and displacement, and their representation in visual culture, with a particular interest in the tension between history and memory. Her manuscript titled Aesthetics of Displacement: Turkey and Its Minorities on Screen (Bloomsbury, 2016) is a result of some of these topics has been interested in relation absence and denial and history/memory in film. The manuscript was made open access by the non-profit Knowledge Unlatched in 2020. She has published in Turkish and English and her writing appeared in various peer reviewed journals such as the Third Text and Continuum. More recently she is working on a project that seeks to explore the cultural significance of hair (both its presence and absence) by investigating its uses in contemporary visual culture.
