Neil was Deputy Head of Marketing & Business Strategy and Principal Lecturer, strategic management. He teaches on the MBA and MA programmes, and was, for many years, Director of MBA programmes. His research interests are scenario planning and complex adaptive systems which are reflected in the MBA elective Futures and foresight, for which he is module leader. He also teaches creativity, design thinking and entrepreneurial development at both postgraduate and undergraduate levels.
He has acted as the lead examiner for Business Strategy for the Chartered Institute of Management Accountants.
Since joining the academic community Neil has published a number of strategic management teaching cases focusing on a variety of organisations and industries. His most recent publications include, a case study on Ratners for the book "Relationship Marketing - Strategy and Implementation", by Helen Peck, Adrian Payne, Martin Christopher and Moira Clark, Competitive Strategies for Service Organisations, Macmillan Press in 2000 and Management Accounting - Business Strategy, Elsevier, 2006, Business Strategy - CIMA Revision cards, Elsevier 2006, the business strategy e-learning material* to be found on the Elsevier web site, and Strategic Supply Chain Management, Chartered Institute of Purchasing and Supply, 2006
He is a City Liveryman and a founder Freeman of the Worshipful Company of Firefighters, where he serves as a Court Assistant and as Chairman of the education sub-committee. Neil is also a Trustee, and the Finance Director, of the Fire Service Memorial Trust**.
