About me

I am a Senior Lecturer in Imaging Science at the University of Westminster, with over 15 years teaching experience. I have, in total, five years experience as course leader of the BSc (Hons) Clinical Photography and I have led modules at both undergraduate and postgraduate level. I hold a Postgraduate Certificate in Higher Education, and I am a Senior Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (SFHEA).

I gained my first degree in Photography in 1995 from the Technological Educational Institute of Athens, Greece. From 1993 to 1998 I worked as editor-in-chief and technical author in photographic magazines during which I published several articles in photography. I then continued my studies at the University of Westminster and I obtained my MSc in Digital Imaging in 1999. In 2004 I gained my PhD in Imaging Science, which was funded by a research studentship awarded by the School of Communication and Creative Industries at the University of Westminster. My research was focused on the perceived quality of displayed images viewed across the Internet. For this work I received the Royal Photographic Society’s Selwyn Award in 2004.

My research interests centre on the areas of imaging systems, image quality and colour science and my work has been presented at national and international symposia and has been published in related journals. I am an Associate Member (ARPS) and Accredited Imaging Scientist (AIS) of the Royal Photographic Society and I have been Assistant Editor of the Imaging Science Journal.

I am also editor and co-author of ‘Langford’s Advanced Photography’, 7th and 8th editions, which has been translated into five languages including Chinese (Mandarin) and Italian, and a contributing author of the ‘Manual of Photography and Digital Imaging’, 10th edition.

Teaching

I have teaching experience at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels in areas which include imaging technologies, science for imaging, colour theory, colour management, project planning, and research methods, and I have several years of experience with supervising final year projects and dissertations.

Research

I am a member of the Computational Vision and Imaging Technology research group. My research interests are in the areas of imaging systems, and image quality and I have a special interest in the perceived quality of displayed images. I am also member of the Society of Imaging Science and Technology (IS&T) and of the Colour Group (GB).
