About me

I am a Senior Lecturer in Construction and the Built Environment at the University of Westminster, where I have been teaching since August 2022. My academic background is in civil and structural engineering, with a particular focus on construction technology, sustainability, and the application of digital tools within the built environment.

I hold an MSc in Structural Engineering with Distinction from the University of East London, along with postgraduate and undergraduate degrees in structural and civil engineering. I achieved Fellowship of the Higher Education Academy (FHEA) and completed the Postgraduate Certificate in Higher Education (PGCHE) at the University of Westminster in October 2023.

My academic career spans teaching roles in both the UK and India, including leadership experience as Assistant Professor and Head of the Civil Engineering Department at Shree L. R. Tiwari College of Engineering, where I received Best Teacher Awards in 2016 and 2017. Alongside my academic career, I have gained industry experience as a structural design engineer, which informs my teaching while maintaining a strong academic focus.

I am a Member of the Institution of Civil Engineers (ICE) and a Candidate Member of the Chartered Institute of Building (CIOB). My work is driven by a commitment to inclusive, student-centred education and bridging academic knowledge with contemporary construction practice.

Teaching

I teach across construction, civil engineering, and built environment subjects at foundation, undergraduate, and postgraduate levels. My teaching focuses on structural principles, construction technology, sustainability, and construction management, and I regularly supervise undergraduate and MSc dissertations.

My teaching approach emphasises blended and active learning, combining face-to-face, synchronous, and asynchronous delivery to enhance engagement and accessibility. I incorporate authentic assessments, practical problem-solving, and laboratory-based learning to support students in applying theoretical concepts to real-world construction and engineering challenges. 

I contribute to curriculum development, module review, and course re-validation activities, working closely with course and module leaders to ensure academic quality and alignment with industry expectations. I also support student transition and recruitment activities through inductions, open days, and academic mentoring, with a strong focus on employability and professional development.

Research

My current research focuses on AI-enabled digital construction workflows for the structural assessment and retrofitting of existing buildings. I explore how artificial intelligence can be integrated with Building Information Modelling (BIM) and data from building surveys, laser scanning, inspection images, and technical reports to support more efficient and consistent decision-making in structural assessment and retrofit planning.

The research aims to develop and validate semi-automated AI–BIM workflows that assist engineers and surveyors in identifying structural defects, assessing risk, and evaluating retrofit options, while improving transparency, accuracy, and efficiency compared to traditional manual approaches. My work engages with themes such as explainable AI, multi-source data integration, and the application of digital technologies to support sustainable retrofit strategies.

My broader research interests include numerical modelling of reinforced concrete structures, sustainable construction practices, and the use of emerging technologies such as Digital Twins, BIM, and AI within structural engineering. I actively integrate research-informed perspectives into my teaching to expose students to current challenges and innovations within the construction and built environment sectors.
