Research

Currently, Dr A Ramesh Arumugam is the Principle Investigator of a research paper focusing on ""Digital Transformation and Sustainable Value Creation: The case of SMEs in England". In recent decades the development of technologies and digital transformation have been changing the landscape of many SME sectors and industries in England. Even more, the progress of technological development and digital transformation is progressing in unexpectedly fastest speed and put the companies and firms under undue pressure in preparing and adopting to this digital transformation. The large firms have the financial abilities, competencies and other resources to reciprocate and adopt digital technologies and it transformations. However, the small and medium enterprises (SMEs) in the England always have the financial and competency constraints in preparation, adaptation and implementation to this digital transformation environment. As a result, SMEs in England are not quite ready for this digital transformation and may struggle to create sustainable values for their business going concern.

This paper aims to investigate the Digital Transformation (i.e., the adoption and implementation digital technologies) in SMEs in England and determine to what extend the adoption of digital technologies positions the SMEs in England to sustainable value creation. The investigation will examine the adoption and implementation of the digital technologies based on the literature reviews and empirical evidence and their impact on Sustainable Value Creation in social, economic and environmental perspective.

Firstly, for the context of this investigation, he has referenced that the digital transformation means adoption and implementation of digital technologies. Then, these digital technologies are referred to the technologies identified through literature reviews and empirical evidence.

Secondly, for the context of this investigation, he has referenced that the Sustainable Value Creation mean the process of generating economic, social, and environmental benefits by integrating responsible practices into business strategy, ensuring that value is created not only for shareholders but also for stakeholders and society at large.

He also expressed an interest in a Knowledge Exchange (KE) project focused on developing Accounting and Finance Skills for Prisoners (HM Prison Service – HMPS). This KE project proposes the delivery of practical accounting and finance training as part of prisoner rehabilitation programme. The idea builds on his previous work with Sutton Highview Prison.
