About me

I am a Lecturer in Quantity Surveying and the Course Leader for the Construction Quantity Surveyor and Construction Quantity Surveying Technician apprenticeship programmes. My academic background includes a PhD in Architecture and Civil Engineering, an MSc in Construction Project Management, and a BSc (Hons) in Quantity Surveying, and I am a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (FHEA). I have academic experience in the UK, Hong Kong, and Sri Lanka, and industry experience in the Middle East. My work is shaped by a strong interest in digital innovation within the built environment and a commitment to developing capable, industry-ready learners.

Teaching

I teach across the core areas of Quantity Surveying, including procurement, contract administration, construction economics, and measurement. My teaching is highly interactive, blending case studies, simulations, site visits, and employer-led activities to bridge theory and practice. I emphasise inclusive, engaging learning environments that encourage collaboration, reflective thinking, and professional growth. My approach integrates insights from my research on digital innovation and emerging technologies, ensuring learners are prepared for contemporary industry practice. As Course Leader for apprenticeship programmes, I work closely with employers to maintain strong alignment between academic learning, professional standards, and workplace expectations.

Research

My research focuses on digital innovation within the built environment, with particular emphasis on artificial intelligence, data-driven decision-making, and immersive technologies. I explore how AI can be applied ethically and effectively in Facilities Management and Quantity Surveying, including machine learning for predictive insights, VR-based construction site safety training, and techniques for building damage assessment. My work aims to advance practical, responsible technological adoption across the sector and improve operational efficiency, safety, and sustainability. I collaborate with academic and industry partners to ensure that my research maintains strong real-world relevance and supports innovation in construction and FM practice.
