Dr Paul Breen, Senior Lecturer in the Westminster Professional Language Centre at the University of Westminster, has written an article for Writer’s Digest giving tips about how to write well and even win a literary prize.

In his article, Dr Breen explained how writing could be trickier than people think and shared his own experience for improving his writing skills.

His tip, for budding writers to potentially see their future books published, is to read more and to listen to other writers’ voices: “I was spending too much time writing and not enough on reading. My New Year’s resolution thus became to read more, and listen to the voices of other writers. Reading is actually the key to better writing. The ability to absorb and reflect upon other people’s words is just as important as getting your own thoughts out onto the page.”
