The University of Westminster will host a symposium called ‘Media Engagement: Connecting Production, Texts and Audiences’ on Wednesday 4 May 2016.

The symposium will look at a number of issues regarding audience engagement, including industry engagement, the varieties of engagement, fandoms, television engagement and film engagement. 

The panels will be made up of a number of academics from the University of Westminster and other British universities, along with international academics from universities in Norway, Brazil, the USA, Denmark, Sweden, Switzerland, Germany and Ireland.

The symposium was organised by the University of Westminster, in partnership with Wallenberg Foundation and Lund University in Sweden.

Prior to the symposium, a panel discussion on production and audience research on engagement will take place on Wednesday 3 May 2016.

The discussion will examine how audiences engage with the media, specifically looking at the audiences’ experience of live performances, social media, and participation in the media itself.

On the panel will be Formats Consultant Julie Donovan, Annette Hill from Lund University, Head of London Film School Jane Roscoe, and Douglas Wood, who is Group Director of Research and Insight and Endemol Shine.

The panel will be chaired by Professor Jeanette Steemers, who is a Professor of Media and Communications at the University of Westminster.

The symposium will take place on 4 May 2016, at 9am in the Boardroom on Regent Campus. Staff and students can request a free place by emailing [email protected]. Members of the public can purchase a ticket for £25.
