Westminster alumna Mushtariy Madrakhimova named global finalist in British Council Study UK Alumni Awards

The British Council Study UK Alumni Awards celebrate the achievements of international alumni from UK universities who have made an exceptional impact in their professions, communities and countries. Mushtariy is one of just 28 global finalists selected across the awards' four categories.

Since graduating from Westminster International University in Tashkent in 2010 with a Commercial Law BA Honours degree, Mushtariy has built a career as a legal and public sector leader, driving access to justice, integrity and opportunity in Uzbekistan. She led the creation of Madad, a nationwide free legal aid initiative that has supported more than four million people across Uzbekistan, with a particular focus on increasing access to legal services for those living in rural communities.

Alongside her work expanding access to justice, Mushtariy has played a key role in national anti-corruption reforms and corporate transformation initiatives, helping to strengthen integrity in Uzbekistan’s public sector. While implementing these reforms, Mushtariy earned a Master’s degree in Public Policy at the Blavatnik School of Government, University of Oxford.

Committed to supporting the next generation of leaders, Mushtariy mentors young people in remote communities, encouraging them to pursue global education, do civic work and dream big, just as she did. Through her work, Mushtariy shows how leadership, policy and giving back can create lasting change.

Mushtariy’s work directly contributes to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) 10: Reduced Inequalities and 16: Peace, Justice and Strong Institutions. Since 2019, the University of Westminster has used the SDGs holistically to frame strategic decisions to help students and colleagues fulfil their potential and contribute to a more sustainable, equitable and healthier society.
