The article is an interesting read about the current state of the rock’n’roll genre, with a focus on the preservation of iconic landmarks in Iowa such as the Surf Ballroom. In the article, Sherry Davis discusses her dedication to preserving rock’n’roll’s presence in Midwest America with her sister Sheryl Davis.

Talking about the continued nostalgia for the Surf Ballroom, Sherry Davis said: “Teenagers were central to the rock’n’roll movement as song subjects, audience members and first-time consumers who powered the record industry. The cultural transition into the 1960s was as much about a symbolic loss of innocence as it was the loss of rock’n’roll in its original form. Clear Lakes brings everything into perspective in such a profound way, that if any place embodied this moment, it would be the Surf Ballroom.”

Talking about her work, David Brooks, Alumni Relations Officer for Alumni Experience, said: “It’s fantastic to see that Sherry’s dedication to preserving such important musical heritage, encompassing places linked to rock and roll legends such as the Everly Brothers and Buddy Holly, has been featured in Vintage Rock magazine and will receive wider recognition. Since her dissertation at Westminster, Sherry has pioneered research in this field and strived to engage the public with these great stories of music history.”
