Daje Han is a South Korean fashion and beauty portraiture photographer based in London. During her time at Westminster, she has focused on fine art photography. Individually, she also worked as a fashion photographer, engaging in collaborations in various genres of fashion, with her current passion lying in portrait photography.

The World You Lost is Daje Han’s university graduation project, which consists of four pairs of playful Photogram prints inspired by her childhood experiences, produced in the darkroom.

Describing her inspiration for the prints Daje Han wrote: “Joy and fun are at the heart of playing. Kids are emersed in various forms of playing that adapt and change as we learn, develop and grow. As adults, we slowly lose this expression of freedom and become tied to reality, distant from the innocence and pleasure of play. Freedom and creativity no longer suit our preoccupations and the simple joy of play is lost from our memories. Our lives become dreary and arduous as we obsess over the reality of adult lives.”

The World You Lost is Daje Han’s attempt to reconnect with her childhood through the action of play, freeing the self from the everyday concerns of adulthood. She aims to rediscover image-making that is intuitive and impulsive, and re-immerse oneself in action rather than in thought.

Talking about her recent works, Daje Han said: “Since graduation I have been exploring the colours, shapes and patterns of flowers in the darkroom, working on similar Photogram prints to The World You Lost.”
