The event took place at the University’s Marylebone Campus, home to the Faculty of Architecture and the Built Environment.
The University welcomed some 20 delegates from WiP from a range of companies including Knight Frank, Iceni projects, Towergate Insurance, Hogan Lovells, Shimizu Corporation and Wiser Graduates.
The event was attended by 60 students, and was aimed to provide them with the chance to develop their confidence by having the opportunity to practice interview questions with industry professionals from the property sector. They could also gain invaluable feedback in a ‘speed-dating’ style set up with five minutes spent with each professional asking questions before moving to the next. Each student was able to practice with four different professionals. Recruitment professionals were on hand to provide group and individual CV advice to students.
Senior Architect Anna Sullivan, from multi-disciplinary design consultancy HTA Design LLP, said:
“It was very good to meet so many optimistic and enthusiastic people wanting to make preparations for their next job search, among them some first year students demonstrating an admirable level of commitment and forethought, and in talking to other volunteer interviewers we felt that all the students will do very well in their chosen fields.”
The evening concluded with networking over light refreshments where students were given the opportunity to speak with professionals considering the possibility for future opportunities for the right candidates.
The event was jointly arranged by Fiona Alfred, Chair of Women in Property (WiP) and Iram Sial, Careers Consultant for the University’s Career Development Centre. The members from WiP and volunteers came from a range of organisations including Tower 8, Montagu Evans, Currell, Barton Willmore, Iceni Projects, Carter Lemon Camerson LLP, Howard Kennedy, Knight Frank, Trower & Hamlin, Hogan Lovells, The Packer Partnership, Towergate Insurance, Pinnacle PSG, HTA Design, Shimizu Corporation, Wiser Graduates and EDF.
