University of Westminster champions women’s wellbeing with Menopause Awareness event

The University of Westminster has hosted a Menopause Awareness event to mark a new chapter of the Women of Westminster (WoW) network at the University. Led by Dr Tina Cartwright, Director of the Westminster Centre for Psychological Sciences, the session offered practical tips and guidance for navigating menopause, reaffirming the importance of open dialogue and accessible information around women’s health and workplace wellbeing.

All attendees received a care package to use or gift to a friend experiencing symptoms of menopause. The package included a cooling towel, dark chocolate, a notepad and pen, herbal teas and an essential oil roller.

The event was one of two to mark a new chapter in the WoW network and celebrate its new Co-chairs Zahrah Surooprajally, Events and Student Empowerment Programmes Manager at the University, and Sevgi Sarialtin, Office Administrator for the Vice-Chancellor's Office. The pair are set to build on the strong foundations laid by their predecessors and continue the network’s mission to represent the interests of the Westminster community.

The WOW network lobbies for gender equity, diversity and inclusion. The group has over 300 members and works towards offering more opportunities for women to develop and progress in their careers, helping them achieve more senior and leadership roles. Their mission is to create safe spaces for members to voice their concerns, organise key events and workshops, and facilitate training, mentoring and coaching.

Zahrah said: "It is an honour to work on the WoW Network in the role of Co-chair. Sevgi and I are eager to build on the previous work of the network as well as hone in on themes such as disability, holistic wellness, tech and employability progression. Thank you for all your support."

The event and continued work of the WoW network directly contributes to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) 3: Good Health and Wellbeing and 5: Gender Equality. Since 2019, the University of Westminster has used the SDGs holistically to frame strategic decisions to help students and colleagues fulfil their potential and contribute to a more sustainable, equitable and healthier society.
