Professor Graham Smith, Professor of Politics and Director of the Centre for the Study of Democracy, was featured in articles from The Guardian discussing the idea that members of the public should be given the chance to end the Brexit deadlock.

The following article highlights a letter sent to The Guardian signed by well-known figures including Professor Smith, demanding a new approach that would allow the public to decide on a solution. Citizens’ assemblies have been deployed around the world, allowing ordinary people to confront social or political challenges that politicians have been unable to resolve in their own hands.

In a second article, which was also published in The Guardian’s print newspaper, Professor Smith commented that the approach can be useful "where there are divisions abouto how we should go forward, and some kind of deadlock needs to be broken."
