Give your career prospects a boost and study a foreign language as part or alongside your course. Make yourself more employable and gain insight into other cultures.

For next academic year, Polylang, the University's credited open language programme, will be offering the following languages from beginners

  • Arabic
  • Chinese
  • French
  • German
  • Spanish
  • Italian
  • Japanese
  • Russian

If you are an undergraduate student you can choose a Polylang language module as your optional/free-elective module. If you wish to do so, you need to include it in your module choices by April 26. For the relevant codes, please see our website.

Polylang modules are two semesters long and carry 15 credits. In certain combinations they can count towards the final degree classification of undergraduate students.

If you can’t study a Polylang module within your 120 credit limit, you can still take a language module but you would need to pay an additional fee. In this case you don’t need to include it in your module choices now.

For postgraduate students or alumni it is also possible to join a Polylang class; however you’ll need to pay an additional fee (currently £450).
