Tom Buchanan, Professor of Psychology at the University of Westminster, has been quoted in the Newstatesman commenting on procrastination when replying to emails.

Professor Buchanan explained that people who are prone to procrastination are more likely to take longer to respond to emails, saying: “Both of these are behaviours thought to be associated with pessimism about making a good decision.”

Adding that not having deadlines for responding to emails extends the length of time it takes for the individual to reply, he said: “So at least some of us, if there’s no urgency to respond to an email where we’re not confident of our reply, will procrastinate – and probably feel bad about it.”
