Dr Manal Mohammed, who teaches Microbiology, was interviewed on ITV News about the ongoing problem of super-bugs in London.
Following a recent report that outlines the ongoing problem of super-bugs in hospitals in London, Dr Manal Mohammed gave tips on how to avoid coming into contact with these harmful bacteria.
She said: “The most important way to prevent getting infected [is] hand hygiene and washing your hands properly. Unfortunately, some people wash their hands very quickly and forget certain hotspots on your hands that could have bacteria [on them].
“Your hands can play an important role either to yourself or to others.”
She also explained that while some bacteria are harmful, most are very useful. She said: “Bacteria are everywhere and we shouldn’t be paranoid because most bacteria are very useful to humans. Our body is made up of about 2/3 of bacteria and they are very useful.”
