Students on our BA Honours History course recently had the chance to visit Dublin on a fieldtrip.

The group, which is studying one of the University's Irish history modules, visited many sites of interest, including Dáil Éireann (home of the Irish legislature), Trinity College, the Four Courts, the old Irish parliament on College Green, Glasnevin Cemetery and the GPO on O’Connell Street, headquarters of the Easter Rising of 1916.

The University of Westminster’s Dr Patrick Smylie (fourth from the left in the photo) explained, 'Fieldtrips are a great way of helping bring the past to life for our students. They’re highly educational, but great fun at the same time, and really help students come together as a group'.

The next History fieldtrip will take place next spring, to Belfast and Derry, for students taking our module on Northern Ireland Troubles.
