Dr Kathryn Waddington, Head of the Department of Psychology in the Faculty of Science and Technology, was interviewed for a BBC World Service programme, The Why Factor.

The programme's host Mike Williams explores the 'extraordinary and hidden histories behind everyday objects and actions to inform us about the way we live in the 21st Century', with this particular episode focusing on gossip.

The episode explores where gossip originated, whether there is a male or female bias and, ultimately, if gossip can be good for us.

Kathryn's expert opinion, and that of the other guests, can be found on the BBC website.
