Thanks to the University of Westminster working in partnership with the University of Westminster Students' Union (UWSU), both students and colleagues can now access free sanitary pads, free tampons and free condoms at multiple locations across the University’s campuses.

Talking about the free access of the products, Taruna Bangia, UWSU Vice-President of Welfare, said:

“As Vice President of Welfare, ensuring that the right support is in place for students is my main focus. Periods have been brushed under the table in some communities for years, it is high time we change that; it is time we eliminate the stigma by normalising these notions and conversations thereof. Students are facing a cost-of-living crisis and sanitary products should never been deemed as a luxury.

“We have been working with the University to deliver the right range of products at the right locations and are still actively pushing for the campaign to increase awareness, gain further traction and address any queries that students might have.”

The products can be found at all campuses in a number of ladies’/men’s, non-gender and disabled toilets. Stands are also located in UWSU office spaces at Marylebone Campus as well as in the UWSU shops at Cavendish and Harrow Campuses.

Campus Services Manager Steve Ford, who has been leading on the project alongside Taruna Bangia, said: “We are delighted to have worked with the UWSU to support and deliver this important initiative, which reinforces our University’s commitment to the welfare and wellbeing of our student community.

“The scheme is already proving popular, and we will continue to review where we can further support our students’ needs.”
