Dr Tom Oliver, Lecturer in Computer Science and Engineering at the University of Westminster, recently attended the international AI-Math symposium in Seoul, South Korea, where he presented his latest research on advanced AI‑driven mathematical modelling and contributed to several high‑level discussions across the programme.

Held between 19-25 July, the AI‑Math NT 2026 Symposium brought together leading mathematicians, computer scientists and AI researchers from around the world to explore how AI is transforming mathematical discovery. Hosted by the Korea Institute for Advanced Study (KIAS), the event focused on the rapidly evolving intersection of AI‑assisted mathematics, number theory and computational modelling.
During the symposium, Dr Oliver delivered a presentation on his current work using AI to tackle complex mathematical problems. He also led one of the research teams investigating cutting‑edge questions in modern number theory and chaired a panel session examining how recent advances in AI are beginning to solve problems that have challenged mathematicians for decades.
About the symposium, Dr Oliver said: “I was delighted to be invited as a speaker and it was inspiring to see the breadth and ambition of the research taking place across the programme. It was a pleasure to share my latest work, and the collaborative atmosphere and exchange of ideas made the event both intellectually exciting and a fantastic opportunity to spark new research collaborations.”
Dr Oliver’s work directly contributes to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, specifically 4: Quality Education, 9: Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure and 17: Partnership for the Goals.
