This companion to Robert’s first book, the successful ‘The Fashion Resource Book: Research for Design’, shows student and professional designers how to use visual research to develop a personal aesthetic as a fashion designer in a global industry.
The book is divided into three sections: the first details the research process underpinning the work of ten designers including Kim Jones for Louis Vuitton, Yohji Yamamoto and Alexander McQueen; the second section is on research and inspiration; and the third part features detailed case studies of particular garments (eg trench coats, parkas and denim jackets).
The book is broadly based on a module Robert presents to his first year students, and stresses the importance of solid research for the successful design process. The foreword is written by Andrew Groves, director of the Fashion Design BA Honours course.
Both books are richly illustrated, of a useful size and sold at a price affordable to students. 'The Fashion Resource Book: Research for Design' is on reading lists of fashion colleges across the globe, as well as being stocked by Urban Outfitters and many museums and gallery shops.
