Professor Jimmy Bell from the University of Westminster lent his expertise on obesity in the Channel 4 programme How to Lose Weight Well.

Jimmy Bell explained that it is the fat inside our body, called visceral fat, that is an indicator for our health condition and clinical conditions like type 2 diabetes or coronary heart diseases, rather than the fats that most people are trying to get rid of on the outside.

“We estimate that a healthy person should carry less than two liters of visceral fat. However, there are thin people who carry very large amounts of internal fat and we call them TOFIS, Thin on the Outside, Fat on the Inside,” Professor Bell said.
